Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the Hyundai World Archery Para Series (WAPS)-2026 in Ahmedabad, marking the first time the championship is being held in India. The event is taking place at the Sabarmati Riverfront from September 5 to September 9.

During the inauguration, Shah stated that Gujarat is positioned to become a global hub for sports, encompassing training, modern facilities, sports equipment manufacturing, and medical science related to sports injuries. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India aims to become a major global sports center.

A 29-member Indian team is participating in the championship. Shah highlighted several athletes, including Harvinder Singh and Sheetal Devi, as inspirations for the nation. Looking toward future hosting capabilities, Shah mentioned that Ahmedabad is a contender for the 2036 Olympics and is set to host the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030.
