Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh hit by heavy monsoon rains, floods and traffic disruptions

Intense monsoon rains swept across western and central India, delivering up to four inches of rain in two hours in Surat and as much as ten inches in parts of Gujarat's Amreli district. The downpours caused widespread waterlogging, traffic jams and disruptions to electricity supply in dozens of villages. In Surat, streets and main roads were submerged, trapping vehicles for extended periods.

In Gujarat, state disaster response teams, including 10 National Disaster Response Force units and 25 State Disaster Response Force units, were deployed to assist affected areas. Rescue crews helped relocate 777 people to safe locations and extracted 60 individuals from flood waters. Similar heavy rain alerts were issued for multiple districts in Madhya Pradesh, with forecasts warning of continued thunderstorms and strong winds over the next several days.
