Gujarat approves major irrigation and barrage projects in Valsad
The Gujarat government has approved significant water infrastructure projects in the Valsad district to improve irrigation and water security.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel granted administrative approval for a Rs 1,331.30 crore lift irrigation project. This initiative aims to provide water to 46 tribal villages in the Kaprada and Dharampur talukas by lifting water from the Madhuban Reservoir. The project is designed to bring 17,000 hectares of farmland under irrigation via a pipeline network consisting of a 53 km main trunk line and over 188 km of branch lines.
Additionally, a Rs 159.50 crore barrage project on the Daman-Ganga River near Vapi is set to commence. Located approximately 3 km downstream of the existing Vapi Weir, the barrage will have a gross storage capacity of 5.49 million cubic metres and a catchment area of 2,250.73 sq km. This project is expected to support irrigation for 549 hectares, recharge groundwater, and assist in salinity control.
