Gujarat authorities seize suspected counterfeit Nicardia medicines

Authorities in Gujarat have launched an intensive crackdown on a suspected counterfeit medicine network following the detection of duplicate Nicardia Retard 10 tablets. The cardiac medication is manufactured by J. B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Investigations began on August 19 and have expanded across Ahmedabad and other regions, including Nadiad, Timbi, and Bhavnagar. Officials have inspected dozens of medical stores, pharmaceutical agencies, and wholesale establishments. Reports indicate that more than 24,000 strips of suspected duplicate Nicardia have been seized during the operation.

Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya stated that the manufacturing, distribution, or sale of duplicate branded medicines is illegal. Samples of the seized tablets have been sent to laboratories for testing. Further legal action will be determined based on the laboratory results and the ongoing investigation into the supply chain.
