Gujarat braces for week of heavy rain as districts receive red, orange and yellow alerts

The Gujarat meteorological department has forecast persistent heavy rain for the next seven days, extending the already intense monsoon activity. Red alerts have been issued for Navasari, Dangs and Valsad, while orange alerts cover districts such as Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath, and yellow alerts apply to Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad and other areas. Authorities have warned of rising river levels, possible flooding in low‑lying zones and have urged residents to avoid non‑essential travel and to stay away from water bodies.

In the past 24 hours, 196 talukas recorded rain ranging from 1 inch to more than 7 inches, with a peak of 7.76 inches in Khambh, Amreli, and 6.73 inches in Rajula. Similar totals were reported across the state, creating water‑logging and flood‑prone conditions. Local administration has kept rescue teams on standby and advised communities to follow official cautions.
