Gujarat Government Holds High‑Level Review of Monsoon Emergency Preparedness as Heavy Rains Persist

Widespread monsoon rains across Gujarat have produced heavy to very heavy downpours, with Vapi taluka recording over eight inches in 24 hours and several other districts exceeding six inches. Reservoirs have risen, placing 11 dams on high alert, four on alert and seven on warning, while the state’s water storage reached about 65% of capacity at the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

A high‑level meeting of the Weather Watch Group was convened at the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar, chaired by Relief Commissioner Subhash Savaliya and attended by ministers, district officials, NDRF and SDRF representatives. The officials reviewed forecasts, reservoir levels, and emergency response plans, reiterating a “zero‑casualty” goal. They directed continuous monitoring of dam safety, stand‑by readiness of power, water and road services, and the deployment of rescue teams. So far, 641 residents have been moved to safer shelters and 76 people rescued, with numerous NDRF teams on standby. The administration urged the public to follow advisories and highlighted ongoing coordination across departments to mitigate flood risks.
