Gujarat floods rescue more than 1,700 people across Ahmedabad and neighboring districts

Heavy rains on July 21‑22 caused severe flooding in south Gujarat, including Ahmedabad district and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. In Ahmedabad, police and the Army’s Golden Katar Division rescued over 1,000 people from the industrial corridor along the Sarkhej‑Bavla route, including 900 workers and families at Gallops Industrial Park and 82 persons trapped in an Amazon warehouse in Rajoda. The Indian Army also evacuated more than 790 civilians from flood‑affected areas such as Navsari, Valsad, Vapi, Silvassa, Dholka and Rajoda, working alongside the National Disaster Response Force, state disaster agencies and local civil administration. Rescue teams provided food, water, medical aid and temporary shelter, while road closures – notably on NH 47 and SH 17 – disrupted traffic and industrial operations, including a temporary shutdown of Maruti’s plant. The flooding claimed 35 lives, 29 of them in Valsad and Navsari districts. Ongoing drainage and relief efforts aim to restore normalcy across the region.
