Gujarat Giants prepare for WPL 2027 auction with high player retention

Gujarat Giants head coach Michael Klinger is implementing a new strategy ahead of the 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) mini-auction, scheduled for October 28 in Kochi. The franchise has adopted a high-retention approach, keeping 15 players and releasing only four, which is the lowest number of releases among all teams.

With a remaining purse of Rs 1.25 crore, the Giants aim to fill three remaining spots, including one overseas player. Klinger noted that the team is currently conducting off-season camps in Bengaluru to scout talent and build squad depth. The coaching staff is specifically targeting improvements in the bowling unit and potentially adding extra batting depth based on statistical data from the previous season.

This strategy marks a shift from the 2024 season, when the team released 11 players. Klinger emphasized that management support and squad continuity are central to the team's goal of improving upon their recent performances, which included reaching the Eliminator in the last two seasons.
