Gujarat heavy rain swamps over 260 talukas, floods threaten

State emergency officials said that in the last 24 hours more than 260 of Gujarat's talukas experienced significant rainfall. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar recorded 265 talukas in one report and 255 in another, with the heaviest downpours measured at 15 inches in Santpur (Patan district) and up to 19 inches in Mahem (Kheda district).

The intense rain has caused widespread water‑logging, inundated low‑lying areas, and disrupted road traffic across the state. Rivers and streams are swelling, prompting alerts from the disaster management teams and the deployment of rescue units to the most affected zones. Authorities have warned of possible flooding in rivers and reservoirs, especially in the Narmada catchment, and have issued high‑alert advisories for several districts.

Local administrations are monitoring the situation closely, urging residents in flood‑prone areas to stay cautious and cooperate with relief operations.
