Gujarat minister orders transfer of doctor after alleged abuse of female resident

The Gujarat government has ordered the transfer of senior doctor Ashwin Ramani from Rajkot Civil Hospital to a primary health centre in the Panchmahal district. The decision follows allegations that Ramani slapped and verbally abused a woman resident doctor, identified as Dr. Krisha Singhala, during an altercation in the hospital’s emergency ward.

The confrontation reportedly occurred on a Thursday evening following a disagreement regarding the admission and treatment of a critically ill elderly patient. Following the complaint, police booked and detained Ramani. Resident doctors at the hospital staged protests regarding the incident and broader concerns over workplace safety.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya stated that the government is taking the misconduct “extremely seriously” and emphasized that the safety and dignity of women employees in government hospitals will not be compromised. The Health Department has also initiated legal action against the senior doctor in accordance with established rules.
