Monsoon deluge floods Gujarat, Maharashtra and Raipur, India

Heavy monsoon rains over western and central India have caused severe waterlogging, transport disruptions and infrastructure damage across several states. In Mumbai and surrounding districts, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert, schools were closed, subways and roads were submerged and flights delayed. In Raipur, Chhattisgarh, the Gudhiyari under‑bridge was completely flooded, forcing commuters to take long detours. Gujarat experienced widespread rainfall, raising reservoir levels (Sardar Sarovar Dam at 64 % capacity) and prompting emergency response teams, NDRF and SDRF deployments. Roads and bridges were damaged in districts such as Junagadh, Navsari and Veraval, with some villages cut off. The Radhanagari Dam in Maharashtra overflowed, adding to flooding in Mumbai suburbs. State authorities have warned fishermen, deployed pumps and monitoring systems, and issued alerts for further heavy rain and thunderstorms. The monsoon activity is expected to continue in the coming days, with the IMD forecasting additional heavy to very heavy showers across the affected regions.
