Gujarat Police Arrest Fire Officer and IT Fraud Suspect in Separate Corruption Cases

The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted a sting operation in Ahmedabad, catching private intermediary Bhavsinh Zala accepting a Rs 36,000 bribe to secure fire‑no‑objection certificates for six buildings. The trap also implicated Amitkumar Dongre, the city’s Chief Fire Officer, whose alleged consent was recorded during the operation. Legal proceedings against both men are underway.

Separately, Gujarat police arrested 37‑year‑old Nikhil Khalas in Surat after a three‑month manhunt. Khalas, a former head of the Support Bidding Division at Ahmedabad‑based e‑Procurement Technologies Ltd., is accused of embezzling over Rs 1.56 crore by altering bidder account details and diverting funds to his own accounts. Investigators seized mobile phones, a laptop and froze Rs 61.44 lakh of proceeds, while seeking custody to recover the remaining amount.
