Gujarat sees widespread heavy rain and red alerts in five districts

A rain system moving from southern Gujarat to the north has brought significant rainfall across the state, with 95 talukas reporting precipitation in the past 24 hours. The weather department issued red alerts for five districts—Valsad, Navsari, Dang, Tapi and Surat—where very heavy rain is expected, and orange or yellow alerts for several other areas.

The downpour has raised water levels in rivers and low‑lying areas, prompting flood warnings and advice for residents to avoid open fields and stay away from large trees. Farmers in many districts have welcomed the rain for its positive impact on crops, while traffic in urban zones has slowed and some roads are temporarily water‑logged.
