Gujarat to build 100-hectare enclosure for lions involved in human attacks
The Gujarat Forest Department has commenced work on a specialized 100-hectare enclosure at Ambardi Safari Park to house Asiatic lions that have been involved in attacks on humans. Located near Dhari in the Amreli district within the Gir Protected Area, the enclosure aims to mitigate human-wildlife conflict while allowing the lions to remain within a natural environment.
Dr. Jaipal Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, stated, "Lions involved in human attacks will be kept in a suitable environment by fencing a designated area at Ambardi Safari Park." The initiative is part of a broader scientific relocation strategy used to manage population, treat injured animals, and protect both residents and wildlife.
On the eve of World Lion Day, the state government highlighted its ongoing commitment to lion conservation and protection under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Ambardi Safari Park, established in 2017, serves as a significant wildlife tourism destination and conservation hub for species including leopards, chital, and nilgai.
