Gulf Ministers Push Iran Missile, Drone Restrictions and Strait of Hormuz Deal
Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council met in Bahrain and issued a joint communiqué demanding that Iran neutralize its ballistic missile and drone capabilities and cease support for regional proxies. The statement tied any future trade or investment with Iran to strict compliance with its diplomatic commitments, including non‑proliferation obligations, and warned that economic normalization would be reversible.
The ministers also stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain free, unconditional, and unrestricted for navigation, rejecting any tolls or control measures. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the summit. Separately, Iranian officials said that shipping in the strait will be governed by the terms of a war‑end memorandum with Oman, emphasizing continued Iranian control over traffic while acknowledging the need for safe passage.
Both statements highlight regional security concerns, the importance of open maritime routes for global trade, and the diplomatic pressure placed on Tehran to curb its missile and drone programmes.
