Gun violence reported in Besançon and Villeurbanne

Multiple shootings have occurred in the French regions of Besançon and Villeurbanne, raising concerns regarding organized crime and drug trafficking.

In Besançon, three men aged 19, 20, and 40 were seriously wounded by gunfire in the Planoise district. The victims were targeted in front of a grocery store by occupants of a vehicle who fled the scene. Investigators report that the attackers used military-grade weapons, including a 7.62 caliber Kalashnikov and a shotgun. While the victims' life-threatening conditions have stabilized, no suspects have been arrested. A burned vehicle found in Montferrand-le-Château is being examined as a potential getaway car. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a settlement of accounts related to drug trafficking.

In Villeurbanne, a man was shot and wounded in the Grandclément district. This incident occurred near the site of a previous shooting that took place five days earlier. While no direct link has been established between the two events, the Grandclément area has been designated a priority sector in the prefecture's plan to combat narcotics trafficking, which includes increased police presence.
