Gunma Prefecture issues influenza advisory as cases rise early
Gunma Prefecture has issued an influenza advisory following an increase in reported cases. For the 40th week of 2026 (September 28 to October 4), the number of reported patients per medical institution rose to 11.13, surpassing the national advisory threshold of 10.00.
This advisory was issued approximately one month earlier than the previous season. Local authorities are urging residents to practice infection prevention measures, including frequent handwashing, proper ventilation, cough etiquette, adequate sleep, and balanced nutrition. Vaccination is also recommended, particularly for the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.
Nationally, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare previously noted that the influenza season began unusually early in August, marking the second earliest onset since 1999. Health officials warn that symptoms like high fever can be mistaken for heatstroke or summer fatigue, emphasizing the importance of consulting medical professionals when symptoms arise.
