Health officials have noted that warm weather can complicate diagnosis, as approximately 20 percent of patients may not present with a fever, potentially leading to confusion with heatstroke.

In response, several municipalities, including Tokyo’s Shinagawa and Minato wards and Yokosuka City, have moved up vaccination schedules for the elderly to late September. Public health officials continue to recommend handwashing, gargling, mask-wearing in crowded areas, and maintaining indoor humidity between 50% and 60%.
