Gunmen assault Nigeria's NIPSS think tank, three security staff killed

Gunmen attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State, in the early hours of Tuesday. The assailants opened fire on security personnel at the main gate, killing three security operatives—including a police officer—and forcing the attackers to retreat after a brief exchange of gunfire.

Institute officials said the situation was quickly brought under control by reinforced security forces and that there is “no threat to the safety of participants, staff, residents, or facilities” and normal activities have resumed. Both the Plateau State Police Command and NIPSS management confirmed the deaths and announced ongoing investigations to determine the perpetrators and motive. Security presence around the institute has been heightened pending further inquiry.
