Gunmen Attack Communities in Nigeria's Plateau and Sokoto States, Killing Over 30

Suspected Fulani gunmen attacked the Christian farming village of Gwomjang in Plateau State on May 31, killing eight Christians and wounding at least 15. The assailants opened fire as villagers returned from evening worship and fled after brief clashes with local soldiers.

On the same day, a separate raid by heavily‑armed bandits hit Dangulbi community in Sokoto State, killing 17 people, including visitors attending an Eid‑el‑Kabir celebration, and looting about 20 shops. The attackers rode on roughly 150 motorcycles and stayed in the village for several hours, preventing burials until they left in the evening.

Later that night, gunmen entered Gwom‑Ajang village in Plateau State, killing seven residents and injuring more than ten. Survivors reported indiscriminate shooting and the theft of property. Local officials dispatched medical teams and promised to cover treatment costs, while community leaders called for increased security deployments to protect vulnerable rural areas.
