Gurugram Floods Disrupt Traffic as India's Monsoon Deficit Narrows to 12%

Heavy rain caused severe flooding in Gurugram, Haryana, with 115 mm recorded over 33 hours. Waterlogged streets halted traffic on major roads such as the Delhi‑Jaipur Highway service lane, leaving commuters stranded for up to six hours. Municipal and police crews deployed cranes, pumps and patrol units to clear water and assist stranded vehicles. The city’s drainage system was described as virtually collapsed, prompting officials to pledge long‑term improvements.

At the national level, the Prime Minister’s Office reported that the all‑India monsoon rainfall deficit fell to 12 percent, citing above‑normal rainfall in the first week of July. A high‑level review chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister assessed the impact of a weak to moderate El Niño on the kharif season and outlined preparedness measures across agriculture, water resources and health ministries.
