Gus Kikin elected General Chairperson of PBNU for 2026-2031

KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, popularly known as Gus Kikin, has been elected as the General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) for the 2026-2031 term. The decision was reached through a consensus by the nine members of the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA) during the 35th Muktamar held at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java.

KH Miftachul Akhyar was reappointed as the Rais Aam of PBNU for the same period. This election marked the first time the AHWA mechanism was utilized to determine the organization's leadership. In his inaugural remarks, Gus Kikin emphasized that NU is a religious and social organization and should not be used as a platform for practical politics.

Following the election, officials including Muhammad Qodari and Saifullah Yusuf denied allegations that the new leadership duo was a 'package' ordered by the government. Additionally, Gus Ipul expressed disappointment regarding recent political comments criticizing the organization's recent direction. Observers noted that Gus Kikin faces key priorities, including elite reconciliation and strengthening the economic empowerment of the Nahdliyin community.
