Gus Yahya to Run Again for PBNU Chair Ahead of 2026 Jombang Muktamar

KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya), co‑chair of Indonesia's Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), announced on 12 July 2026 that he will seek the PBNU chairmanship again at the organisation's 35th Muktamar. He said his candidacy is motivated by a desire to fulfil promises and responsibilities left unfinished during his previous term, describing them as a moral “debt” he wishes to settle.

The Muktamar is scheduled for 27‑31 August 2026 at Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas in Jombang, East Java, a site noted for its historic link to NU founder KH Abdul Wahab Hasbullah. Gus Yahya expressed hopes that the gathering will be blessed by scholars and result in decisions that benefit the Muslim community, the nation and humanity at large.
