Gus Yusuf Gains Support from 22 Central Java NU Branches for PBNU Chair Race

Twenty‑two provincial branches of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) in Central Java issued a joint statement urging KH Muhammad Yusuf Chudlori, known as Gus Yusuf, to stand as a candidate for the chairmanship of the organization’s central board (PBNU) at the upcoming Muktamar. The request was presented by KH Ahmad Fauzan, chair of the PCNU in Semarang, on behalf of the regional branches.

The supporting branches argue that PBNU needs a calm, unifying leader who can refocus the movement on service to the community and uphold traditional values. They cite Gus Yusuf’s strong pesantren background and his ability to bridge various internal groups. In response, Gus Yusuf thanked the members, emphasizing that the candidacy is a matter of trust, not personal ambition, and pledged to work for the unity and service of the NU community if appointed.
