Gusau International Airport passes ICAO quality assurance tests

Gusau International Airport (GIA) in Zamfara State has successfully passed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) 17-step quality assurance and approval process for its Instrument Flight Procedures. This achievement makes it the only Nigerian airport to complete all stages of this specific assessment.

The certification comes ahead of the airport’s scheduled commencement of commercial operations next month. XEJet Limited is expected to begin bi-weekly flights between Gusau and Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with scheduled services on Mondays and Fridays starting in the first week of October.

The rigorous testing follows a period of corrective measures for Nigeria’s civil aviation system. After a 2023 ICAO audit resulted in an Effective Implementation score of 75 percent and a subsequent Significant Safety Concern was identified during a follow-up mission in April 2026, several Nigerian airports underwent these quality assurance inspections to ensure compliance with international air navigation standards.
