Gustave Fayet exhibition upcoming at Fondation Louis Vuitton

The Fondation Louis Vuitton will host an exhibition titled ‘Gustave Fayet, Collector–Designer’ from October 9 through March 8. The show highlights the multifaceted life of Gustave Fayet (1865–1925), a French entrepreneur, artist, and visionary patron who played a critical role in the recognition of early 20th-century avant-garde art.

Born into a wealthy family of wine merchants, Fayet used his fortune to build one of the most significant private modern art collections, acquiring over 740 works. He was a major supporter of Paul Gauguin, maintaining financial ties with the artist until Gauguin's death, and collected works by masters such as Cézanne, Van Gogh, Renoir, and Degas. His influence extended to organizing early exhibitions of Pablo Picasso’s work and collaborating with figures like Jeanne Lanvin and Paul Poiret.

Beyond collecting, Fayet was a practitioner of painting and ceramics. The exhibition, which will occupy the entirety of the Frank Gehry-designed building, explores his diverse contributions as a designer, curator, and businessman.
