Guwahati hotel shooting: Wife of prime accused surrenders to police

Junmoni Gogoi, the wife of Ghanakanta Gogoi, surrendered to the Dhemaji Sadar Police Station on Saturday morning accompanied by her lawyer. She had been missing since the October 26 shooting at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati, which left five people dead and one person injured.

The victims were identified as hotel co-owners Helena Bharali and Bhudev Bharali, their son Devarshi, daughter-in-law Rinika Hijam Bharali, and caretaker Narayan Das. Police suspect the attack, allegedly motivated by a financial dispute regarding the hotel lease, was carried out by Ghanakanta Gogoi.

Ghanakanta Gogoi is currently in seven-day police custody and is being questioned by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). While he has maintained that he acted in self-defence, investigators are looking into the whereabouts of a licensed pistol and whether Junmoni Gogoi has information regarding the weapon. A team from Guwahati Police is expected to transport her for further interrogation.
