Swiss President Guy Parmelin visits India to strengthen bilateral ties

Swiss President Guy Parmelin is conducting a three-day state visit to India from October 5 to 7, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, science, technology, and mobility. During meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, the leaders discussed strengthening economic ties, particularly following the first anniversary of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which entered into force on October 1, 2025.

Key outcomes of the visit include the signing of several agreements, such as a migration and mobility partnership and a pact for the exchange of young professionals. The two nations also agreed to enhance cooperation in sustainable transportation technologies, infrastructure, nuclear energy, and defense. Under the TEPA framework, EFTA states have committed to investing USD 100 billion in India over the next 15 years.

As part of his itinerary, President Parmelin visited the Noida International Airport to review its facilities and cargo terminal. The visit also included participation in the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on October 7. Discussions between the leaders also touched upon global stability, including the conflict in Ukraine and reforms to the United Nations.
