Guyana expands infrastructure to boost regional connectivity

Guyana is implementing an integrated infrastructure strategy to bolster regional connectivity and support rapid economic growth. Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill announced plans to create continuous transport corridors linking coastal developments to international gateways in Suriname and Brazil.

Key projects include the Palmyra to Moleson Creek four-lane highway, which is intended to connect with a future bridge across the Corentyne River between Guyana and Suriname. The Palmyra area is being developed into a major hub featuring a gas-to-energy pipeline, a stadium, a municipal airport, a hospital, and a deep-water harbour.

Additionally, the US$35 million Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge is scheduled to open by October 5. This new four-lane structure will replace an existing two-lane crossing, aiming to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow for travelers heading into the hinterland and the Linden region.
