Guyana infrastructure and transport development

Overview

Guyana is undertaking several large-scale infrastructure projects to improve national transport corridors and regional connectivity. Initial efforts focused on local improvements, such as the construction of a new roundabout at the Soesdyke Junction to link the East Bank Demerara corridor with the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, and the rehabilitation of the Mahaica to Abary Bridge Road Corridor into a dual carriageway.

The scope of development has expanded to include an integrated strategy aimed at linking coastal developments to international gateways in Suriname and Brazil. This includes the Palmyra to Moleson Creek four-lane highway, intended to connect with a future bridge across the Corentyne River. Furthermore, the US$35 million Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge is expected to open in early October to replace an existing two-lane crossing and improve traffic flow to the Linden region.
