Guyana expands technical training with new AutoCAD laboratories
The Guyanese Ministry of Education is expanding its Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) program through the commissioning of new AutoCAD laboratories. Recent facilities have been established at Hope Secondary School, North Ruimveldt Multilateral Secondary School, and New Amsterdam Secondary School.
These laboratories are part of an $85 million initiative to create specialized computer laboratories for Industrial Technology across six secondary schools. The facilities, such as the one at New Amsterdam Secondary equipped with 15 computers, aim to provide students with computer-aided design skills essential for careers in engineering, architecture, construction, manufacturing, and ICT.
Minister of Education Sonia Parag stated that the initiative recognizes diverse student strengths and provides meaningful pathways beyond traditional academics. Deputy Chief Education Officer Dr. Ritesh Tularam noted that the investment addresses the growing demand for digitally skilled workers in Guyana’s expanding manufacturing, construction, and oil and gas sectors.
