Guyana man remanded for murder of 6-year-old son
Bharrat Jaikarran, a 45-year-old cane harvester, has been remanded to prison in Guyana following charges for the murder of his six-year-old son, Orlando Jaikarran. The child's partially decomposed body was discovered on October 20 in a canal at Waterloo, West Coast Berbice.
Police reports indicate the boy was last seen alive on October 14. Authorities stated that the victim's head, part of his left hand, and his right foot had been severed. Investigators have seized several cutlasses that may have been used in the crime, and police are continuing to investigate the potential involvement of another suspect.
During a hearing at the Weldaad Magistrate's Court, Magistrate Shareefah Parks remanded Jaikarran until November 12. The matter has been transferred to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings. The community of Bath Settlement recently held a funeral for the child, a Grade One pupil at Bath Primary School, amid widespread national mourning.
