Guyana Ministry of Education completes $85M industrial technology expansion
The Ministry of Education has completed the first phase of an $85 million initiative to modernize industrial technology education in secondary schools. The project involved outfitting six secondary schools nationwide with computer-aided design (CAD) laboratories.
These new facilities include air-conditioned spaces equipped with high-powered laptops, peripheral hardware, and AutoCAD software. The initiative aims to improve digital competencies and problem-solving abilities, moving technical training beyond basic manual skills toward advanced digital design.
Education Minister Sonia Parag stated that the investment provides students with tools comparable to international standards, preparing them to contribute to national infrastructure as future architects and engineers. Deputy Chief Education Officer for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr. Ritesh Tularam, noted that the laboratories allow students to transform digital designs into physical products.
