Guyana National Bureau of Standards promotes industry quality and safety

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is working to enhance service quality and safety across the nation's tourism and food service sectors.

In the food service industry, the newly established Catering and Restaurant Association of Guyana (CARA) met with the GNBS to discuss collaboration. The discussions focused on strengthening industry practices through training programs, information sessions on existing standards, and involving CARA in the development of new standards as the sector grows.

In the tourism sector, the GNBS is highlighting the National Standard, GCP 18, which serves as a Code of Practice for Tour Operators and Tour Guides. This standard provides guidance on professional conduct, staff training, insurance, and advertising. It also emphasizes safety protocols, including contingency plans for emergencies such as illness, injury, or missing participants, to ensure responsible tourism and strengthen Guyana's reputation as a destination.
