Guyana Private Sector Commission explores Berbice deep-water port investment
The Private Sector Commission (PSC) of Guyana has met with investment advisory firm Cross Boundary Advisory to discuss investment opportunities and infrastructure development for a proposed deep-water port in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The discussions focused on the port’s potential demand profile, including cargo flows within Guyana and regional connections to Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. The project involves potential partnerships with Bechtel, CGX/NNE, and the Ministry of Public Works.
PSC Chairman Capt. Gerald Gouveia Jr. highlighted the strategic importance of the port and the Road to Lethem in expanding Guyana’s access to regional markets. He noted the potential to connect local production and logistics to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) food market, which is valued at approximately US$1.5 billion. Additional topics included land-use planning for shore bases and data centres, as well as strategies to facilitate investment and provide necessary information to investors.
