Gwanak-gu launches mobile office to engage with residents

Gwanak-gu in Seoul has launched its ‘Mobile Gwanak Office’ initiative, a program designed to bring local administration directly to residents. Running from September 30 to November 3, the program will visit all 21 neighborhoods within the district to listen to community concerns and incorporate them into local policy.

During the initial session in Sillim-dong, residents raised various local issues, including parking shortages, urban redevelopment, subway noise, bus stop installations, and road safety. District Head Park Jun-hee responded to these concerns by pledging to include public parking expansions in mid-to-long-term plans and providing support for redevelopment through a dedicated rapid support team.

Over the past eight years, this mobile outreach has collected 1,055 suggestions from over 11,000 residents, leading to practical improvements such as the ‘Gwanak Ganggamchan Bus’ and the creation of the ‘Gwanak 12’ village bus. The district aims to continue this communicative governance by also operating a ‘Cheok-cheok Hae-deurim Center’ to address housing inconveniences for single-person households and vulnerable groups.
