Gwangju and Jeonnam to offer gift certificate refunds at traditional markets
Gwangju and Jeonnam regions in South Korea will host an Onnuri gift certificate refund event at 60 traditional markets to support local economies and ease the cost of Chuseok holiday shopping. The event, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, will run for five days from September 16 to September 20.
Citizens purchasing domestic agricultural, livestock, or fishery products can receive refunds by presenting receipts and identification at designated market booths. The refund structure provides 10,000 KRW for purchases over 34,000 KRW and 20,000 KRW for purchases exceeding 67,000 KRW. Individual limits are set at 20,000 KRW for agricultural/livestock products and 20,000 KRW for fishery products, allowing a maximum total refund of 40,000 KRW per person at markets participating in both categories.
The initiative includes 24 markets in Gwangju and 36 markets in Jeonnam. Local officials expect the program to reduce the financial burden on residents while boosting sales for traditional market vendors.
