South Korean regional gift certificate refund initiatives

Overview

In late August 2026, Taean County partnered with Korea Western Power to launch a market refund event using Onnuri Gift Certificates. The initiative aimed to stimulate local consumption and support small business owners through a tiered refund system at various ports and traditional markets.

Following this, the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions expanded the use of Onnuri gift certificate refunds to 60 traditional markets. Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, this five-day event in mid-September was designed to ease the cost of Chuseok holiday shopping and support vendors of domestic agricultural, livestock, and fishery products.
