Gwangmyeong City expands electric vehicle purchase subsidies
Gwangmyeong City has announced the third phase of its 2026 electric vehicle (EV) distribution project, aiming to accelerate the transition toward a carbon-neutral city. Starting September 30, the city will accept applications to support the purchase of 351 electric vehicles, including 300 passenger cars, 50 freight vehicles, and one van.
The initiative is backed by an additional supplementary budget of approximately 1.28 billion won, consisting of 630 million won in national funds and 650 million won in municipal funds. Subsidy amounts vary by vehicle type and performance: passenger cars can receive up to 9.8 million won, freight vehicles up to 16.5 million won, and vans up to 19.5 million won.
To qualify, applicants must be residents of Gwangmyeong for at least 60 days or be legal entities/public institutions with business sites in the area. Additional support is available for specific groups, such as taxi operators, young people purchasing their first vehicle, multi-child families, and low-income households. Furthermore, buyers can receive 30,000 points through the ‘Gwangmyeong Climate Soldier Carbon Savings Bank’ after certifying their purchase.
