Gwangmyeong City launches 18 billion won smart city project

Gwangmyeong City is launching a smart city initiative focused on data integration to proactively respond to climate disasters and promote carbon neutrality. The project, totaling 18 billion won, includes 8 billion won in national funds from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 8 billion won in municipal funds, and private investment.

The initiative covers four key areas: energy, transportation, safety, and data. In the energy sector, a 250kW solar power facility will be installed at the Soha Drainage Pump Station to supply power to public infrastructure like smart bus stops and electric two-wheeler battery swapping stations. The transportation sector will introduce eco-friendly demand-responsive buses (DRT) in underserved areas and support the electrification of delivery motorcycles.

To enhance urban safety, the city is deploying AIoT-based smart manholes and surface water level gauges to monitor flood risks in real time, integrating this data with information from the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Han River Flood Control Office. Additionally, a data integration platform will fuse 118 types of urban and administrative data to improve disaster prediction and manage carbon reduction activities through a local carbon trading platform.
