Gwangmyeong City launches new Climate Volunteer Carbon Savings Bank app
Gwangmyeong City is launching a new standalone mobile application for its ‘Climate Volunteer Carbon Savings Bank’ program on October 15. The initiative rewards citizens with points for verifying various climate-friendly actions.
The new app replaces the previous web-browser-based system to provide a more stable platform and improved functionality. It is designed with scalability in mind to allow for future integration of artificial intelligence and automated verification technologies.
Key updates to the service include:
• Verification Methods: Most actions now require real-time photos taken directly through the app's camera to ensure authenticity, though certain items like recycling or donations still allow for uploaded files. • Walking Integration: The app will now track steps directly, automatically awarding points for users who walk over 8,000 steps. • Simplified Campaigns: The monthly ‘10·10·10 Lights Out Campaign’ has been streamlined from three verification steps to two. • Future Features: In December, the city plans to introduce electronic receipt verification through participating merchants, which will automatically sync with the app.
Mayor Park Seung-won emphasized that the city will continue to improve the system to encourage voluntary citizen participation in addressing the climate crisis.
