Gwangmyeong City launches public bicycle donation campaign
Gwangmyeong City has launched a donation campaign centered on its public bicycle service, ‘Gwangmyeong-i’. Under the initiative, 5,000 KRW will be donated for every 1 km traveled by users.
The campaign is a collaborative effort between Gwangmyeong City, the Korea Institute of Sport Science (specifically the Cycle and Boat Racing Headquarters), and the Gwangmyeong Social Welfare Council. The program runs from August to November.
Funds raised through the campaign will be managed by the Gwangmyeong Social Welfare Council to improve the living environments of vulnerable households facing climate crises, such as extreme heat and cold. Support includes replacing old windows and reinforcing insulation. To participate, citizens must register with the ‘Climate Soldier Carbon Savings Bank’ platform, which automatically tracks mileage when the bicycle usage is linked to the same mobile number.
