GWM expands local assembly in Malaysia with Ora 5 HEV

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has commenced the local assembly of the Ora 5 Hi2 HEV hybrid SUV at the EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) plant in Melaka, Malaysia. The vehicle is expected to make its Malaysian debut this November, with an estimated selling price below RM115,000.

The Ora 5 Hi2 HEV features a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and an electric motor, producing a combined 223PS and 476Nm of torque. It offers a driving range exceeding 1,100km and a fuel consumption rate as low as 4.4 litres per 100km.

This rollout follows the production of other models at the Melaka facility, including the Wey G9. EPMB has reported that local assembly of GWM vehicles has surpassed 10,000 units since October 2024. The expansion of the assembly line, which includes the EC15S hybrid SUV, aims to strengthen Malaysia's role in GWM's regional manufacturing footprint and export capabilities to markets such as Thailand and Indonesia.
