Gyeongsangbuk-do advances school dormitory expansion and rice variety testing

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education is proceeding with the expansion of the dormitory at Pohang Girls' Electronic High School. The project aims to improve the living environment for students and strengthen the school's ability to recruit students nationwide. The new facility, scheduled for completion in August 2028, will consist of one basement level and four floors above ground, with a total floor area of 2,699.48 square meters. It is designed to accommodate 96 students through a mix of 10 four-person rooms, 28 two-person rooms, three guest rooms, and one room for persons with disabilities. The total project cost is 12.3 billion won.

Separately, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, in collaboration with the Rural Development Administration, is testing approximately 120 new rice varieties. Experts are evaluating these varieties in Andong, Gumi, and Daegu to identify strains that can maintain stable yields and quality despite extreme weather conditions, such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall. The goal is to select varieties that resist pests and high-temperature damage to ensure stable farming in the face of climate change.
