Gyeongsangbuk-do education assessment reforms
Overview
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education is implementing reforms to student assessment methods to prepare for the AI era. The initiative involves a development team of approximately 50 teachers tasked with creating a “Gyeongsangbuk-style assessment model” that emphasizes descriptive and essay-type evaluations.
Under this plan, elementary education will utilize IB-style descriptive assessments, while secondary education will focus on six specialized areas: Korean language, mathematics, English, social studies, science, and diverse subject areas. The project includes the creation of assessment materials, such as grading criteria and sample answers, which will be tested in classrooms to refine the process.
Starting in March 2027, these materials are scheduled for use in classes, evaluations, and teacher training. To support this transition, the office also intends to develop an AI-based system to assist teachers with grading, feedback, and question utilization.
