Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education expands descriptive student assessments

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education is launching a major transition in student assessment to prepare for the AI era. The initiative focuses on expanding descriptive and essay-type evaluations to better monitor students' thought processes and academic growth.

A development team consisting of approximately 50 elementary, middle, and high school teachers will create a Gyeongsangbuk-style assessment model. Elementary education will focus on IB-style descriptive assessments, while secondary education will be divided into six specialized areas: Korean language, mathematics, English, social studies, science, and diverse subject areas.

The project involves developing assessment materials that include questions, grading criteria, sample answers, and feedback. These materials will be tested in actual classrooms, with student answers analyzed and graded collectively to refine the questions. The final developed materials are scheduled for use in classes, evaluations, and teacher training starting in March 2027. Additionally, the office plans to build an AI-based support system to assist teachers with question utilization, grading, and feedback.
