Gynecological cancer early warning signs highlighted by medical expert
Associate Professor Murat Yassa, an expert in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Acıbadem Kartal Hospital, has highlighted the importance of recognizing early warning signs of gynecological cancers, including uterine, cervical, and ovarian cancers.
Yassa emphasizes that symptoms lasting longer than two weeks or those that are unusual, recurring, or increasing in intensity should be evaluated by a physician immediately. Early diagnosis is critical; for instance, the five-year survival rate for uterine cancer exceeds 90% when detected in its early stages, whereas this rate drops sharply if diagnosed later.
Key warning signs mentioned include postmenopausal bleeding or irregular bleeding between periods. Approximately 90% of women diagnosed with uterine cancer report postmenopausal bleeding as their first symptom. Other indicators include persistent bloating and feeling full quickly after eating small amounts of food.
