Haas loses midfield ground to Alpine in Formula 1

After the Japanese Grand Prix, Haas briefly sat fourth in the constructors’ standings, two points ahead of Alpine. At the following Miami race the gap widened: Alpine’s comprehensive aero upgrade package, which solved a previous weakness in high‑speed corners, lifted Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto ahead of Haas, while the American team introduced only a minor diffuser winglet. The result was a five‑point swing, leaving Haas trailing Alpine.

Team members commented on the disparity. Oliver Bearman said, “We had nothing to bring, so we expected a tough weekend,” and added, “They had a problem in high‑speed corners and it looks like they’ve solved it.” Haas now faces pressure to accelerate development before the next round in Montreal, aiming to close the gap in the tightly contested upper‑midfield.

The struggle highlights the rapid development race in Formula 1, where incremental updates can dramatically shift the balance between teams fighting for championship points.
