Hagen Fire reaches 97% containment in Oregon
The Hagen Fire in eastern Oregon has reached 97% containment after burning 61,380 acres. The fire, which began on July 16, has impacted lands in Umatilla and Union Counties, as well as the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
Management of the fire is transitioning to a smaller organization. The Incident Command Post in Elgin is scheduled to be dismantled on September 28, with remaining work being coordinated out of Walla Walla. Ongoing tasks include approximately 20 miles of road repair and 37 miles of fire line grass seeding.
Emergency closures in the Umatilla National Forest remain in effect from September 22 through December 1, 2026, to ensure public safety and facilitate operations. While public use restrictions have been downgraded, officials warn that burned areas still pose hazards such as unstable terrain, falling trees, and remaining heat.
