Hagen Fire in eastern Oregon

Overview

The Hagen Fire, which burned approximately 61,380 acres across Umatilla and Union counties and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, has moved toward full containment.

By late September, containment reached 87 percent, allowing officials to lift evacuation orders for affected areas. During this period, firefighting efforts focused on soil stabilization, repairing culverts, and managing hazards like weakened trees and heat pockets. The Umatilla National Forest maintained emergency closures to ensure public safety.

Containment subsequently increased to 97 percent. As the incident management transitions to a smaller organization, work has shifted toward long-term recovery, including 20 miles of road repair and 37 miles of fire line grass seeding. Emergency closures in the Umatilla National Forest have been extended through December 1, 2026.
